Community Links / Common Ground

In partnership with cab 2000, SAVAC presents Community Links / Common Grounds. The project brought together artists and activists from local community groups all over Toronto in exploring issues of equality and social justice while fostering stronger alliances between visual artists, activists and cultural workers.
SAVAC presented a series of four hands-on workshop led by the artists and activists focused on creating issue based art projects. This work will be on view at the South Asian Women’s Centre. Coinciding with workshops, a community discussion panel on the topic of Art as Activism, was held at the 519 Community Centre, with panelists Carol Conde, Raphael ‘Lito’ lglesias, Rahim ladha and Mohammed khan.
Workshops were held in May 2000 and includes:
- Bookmaking led by Michelle Daniel, the Toronto Womens Bookstore
- Quilting Stories led by Romona Gananathan, The South Asian Womens Centre
- Mixed Media Postermaking led by Patti Waterfield, Oakwood Village Libraray Art Centre
- Printmaking T-shirts led by Nina Singh Jass and Nadia Junaid, A.S.A.P. Alliance for South Asian Aids Prevention.
